Meals on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels outreach ministry is conducted each Monday. Nutritious and healthy meals are delivered to over 550 persons each month by church membership volunteers. All meals are cooked, assembled, and distributed in the Methodist Ministries Center kitchen area.
First United Methodist Church conducts an open Soup Kitchen on each Monday and Wednesday from 11:30 am – 12:00 pm. All meals are prepared from the Methodist Ministries Center kitchen area. Over 200 people are fed on-site through this mission each week. The soup kitchen is staffed by church employees and volunteers. Mondays we offer a sit down meal in our gym area. Please use the main Methodist Ministries Center entrance for the Monday meal. On Wednesdays, we offer a “to-go” sack lunch. This lunch is distributed at the kitchen door of our Methodist Ministries Center. This door is on the Vernon Street side of the church.
A group of dedicated church volunteers, along with staff, administer this wide-reaching program of community assistance. Our church, in conjunction with Holmes Pharmacy, assists with prescription medications for all who apply. The Community Care office, located on the 1st floor of the Methodist Ministries Center, is open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 am to 11 am. Application forms are located at the main entrance of the Methodist Ministries Center.
Camp Viola is a Christian-based facility in eastern Troup County dedicated to the education, nurture, and redirection of youths in the greater LaGrange area. Each summer First United Methodist Church has staffed, through member volunteers, a week of “summer camp” for underprivileged youths. These church volunteers include adult members, the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF), and staff workers from within the church. These church members guide and immerse these young folks through four days of Christian activities, teachings, and loving attention. This past year over 38 youths were in attendance for an unforgettable week of summer camp.
