OUR LOCAL CHURCH MISSION/PURPOSE

As a local church, we at LaGrange First United Methodist Church believe that our purpose/mission from God is to be…

Christians…

  • SERVING in love

(1 Peter 4:10, “Serve each other according to the gift each person has received, as good managers of God’s diverse gifts.”)

  • CARING with compassion

(Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ.”)

  • SHARING with boldness

(Matthew 28:19, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”)

…In our faith, family, community and world.

(Note: the short form of this mission is that we are “Christians SERVING, CARING and SHARING”)

All three of our mission’s action terms (Serving, Caring, Sharing) can be described using all three of its descriptive terms (love, compassion, boldness).

So, we are called…

► to SERVE in love, with compassion and boldness,

►to CARE in love, with compassion and boldness, and

►to SHARE Christ and our faith in love, with compassion and boldness.

Our tag line describes the context and environments in which we believe God has called us to do these things:

► Serving, Caring and Sharing in our FAITH

► Serving, Caring and Sharing in our FAMILY

► Serving, Caring and Sharing in our local COMMUNITY

► Serving, Caring and Sharing in our WORLD

WE ARE A PART OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHRISTIAN MISSION

We believe the mission described above to be merely the specific, local articulation of our United Methodist tradition’s mission from God to “Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
