First United Methodist Church, LaGrange, Georgia, is located at 401 Broad Street and occupies the property between Broad and Vernon streets. It is also in close proximity to LaGrange College, a related United Methodist institution. The church has maintained a downtown presence since it was formed in 1827 and occupies its fifth building on the original location. Currently a congregation of 1,167 it has provided a consistent spiritual presence and witness for almost 180 years.
First Methodist is currently constructing a Remembrance Columbarium in the courtyard between the Sanctuary building and the Educational builsing. This Columbarium will provide an appropriate consecrated and well-maintained place fo the inurnment of cremated remains of church members and their families. While maintaining traditional and contemporary styles of worship and a commitment to serve an increasingly diverse membership, the church strives to engage persons in meaningful ministries and programs.
