Within our church family, we have the unique opportunity to teach our children and contribute to their growth and development from birth all the way to adulthood.
The Children and Youth music program here at FUMC is certainly no exception. Being part of a choir teaches children skills they will take with them throughout their lives; but they learn so much more than simply "how to read music." They learn the joys of team-work, of being part of something greater than themselves, and they learn to appreciate the beauty that only the arts can give. Our mission is to expose our children and youth to a wide range of musical styles while at the same time teaching them the role of music in the church. Music broadens a child's perspective of the world and, in the process, they learn to appreciate the wide arms that hold all of God's children. Through participation in a choir, children are prepared for a lifetime of service to the church, acquiring skills that not only inspire those listening but also will provide a source of personal joy and fulfillment that can never be lost.
We believe that all children are inherently musical and that our job is simply to cultivate their God-given talents and encourage them to use those talents for His service. Please take a look at the choirs we offer and encourage your children to be a part of this wonderful, growing ministry.

Tuneful Tots demonstrate how well they can listen and sing for Mrs. Julianne!
Tuneful Tots (3 and 4 year olds)
This is a lively group dedicated to our 3 and 4 year olds (3 year olds must be potty-trained.) The children are introduced to the fundamentals of music through activities such as rhythm games, melodic imitation, and introduction to instruments. This group is process based, meaning the focus is on “exploring” music rather than “performing.” They typically perform once during the fall and spring, as well as special performances at Christmas and Easter. The group is directed by Julianne Lynn & Jennifer Emery and rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 5:15-6:00 pm in the Children’s Building in room 205.

Members show off their new choir chairs donated by the Mary Will Thompson Sunday School Class!
Melody Makers (K & 1st Grade)
This group focuses on music fundamentals through singing, games, and related activities. They perform once per month (throughout the school year) by rotating among the various worship services. The group is led by Nancy Larson and accompanied by Patricia Smith. Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings from 5:15-6:00 pm in the Children’s Building in Room 301.

Celebration Singers sing at West Georgia Hospice and then stop at Burger King for some outdoor fellowship and fun!
Celebration Singers (2nd -5th Grade)
This is a singing and learning choir that performs once per month by rotating among our various morning worship services. There is a strong attempt within this group to teach the children to understand the music we sing as it relates to our faith and service within our church and community. This is accomplished through devotional time and discussion about the text. Using slightly more challenging repertoire, this group is typically involved in at least one musical during the year. This choir is led by Kathleen Gulley & Laura Smith with Andrew Hayes serving as accompanist.
