United Methodist Women

The Purpose:
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship: and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the world.

The Emblem:
The official emblem for United Methodist Women, as well as for the United Methodist Church, combines the Cross and a Flame. The cross and flame are ancient symbols of Christ and Pentecost. The shape of the emblem is fluid and free flowing, suggesting change and mobility.

I now remind you to stir into the flame the gift of God which is within you. (II Timothy 1:6a NEB)

Members of UMW meet on a monthly basis in smaller groups called circles. The circles are named for women in the Bible. The circles generally meet on the second Tuesday of each month to participate in a study that the particular circle has agreed upon. This study can either be the current, approved study set forth by the UMW or one of the circles' choosing. There are morning and evening circles that meet in the homes or at the church.
